Marks of UPSC Civil Services Mains Exam
The main Examination is intended to assess the overall intellectual traits and depth of understanding of candidates rather than merely the range of their information and memory.
The Mains examination structure includes qualifying papers (Indian Language and English - 300 marks each) and merit papers: Essay (250), General Studies I-IV (250 each), Optional Subject Papers I & II (250 each), totaling 1750 marks for written test. Personality Test carries 275 marks. Grand total: 2025 marks. The examination assesses intellectual traits and understanding depth, with questions designed for well-educated individuals without specialized study requirements.
