Civil Servants are the administrative backbone of the nation and the country literally runs on them. They play an important role in Policy formulation and implementation. Their functions have a direct impact on citizens. They are the main link between the government and the people. However, of late, the image of these civil servants in the public eye has diminished due to some corrupt officers. And it had a direct impact on people's faith in the government. In order to restore people's faith in the government, the UPSC introduced GS Paper IV – Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude into the Civil Services Mains Exam in the year 2013. With this paper, UPSC wishes to select Candidates with exemplary skill in handling situations in the face of temptations and restrictions, pressure from various quarters.
